FUNDING CUTS

Fill Your Opening Ceremony with Arts, then Cut Them

Thanks for the show, artists -- now get lost.

BC to slash 90% of culture funding.

By Mark Leiren-Young  http://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2010/02/15/MarkYoungArtsCuts/

An interesting and extremely well-written take

on the Olympics and art funding cuts.

THE CDAC will be directly affected to any cuts to Direct Access Gaming Funds, therefore, please help us out and have your say…

Reinstate All Charitable Gaming Grants

in British Columbia!

To Premier Gordon Campbell, Minister Rich Coleman and the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia:

We the undersigned are deeply concerned with the cuts to Gaming Grants in the province of British Columbia and how it will affect our Communities.

This is part of the preamble to an online petition that has been instituted on behalf of all Organizations affected by the budget cuts to the gaming grants of 2009 – 2010. It is our hope that when the budget is tabled in March after the Olympics we will not be targeted again.

Our hope is that each Association will forward the petition link to each of its members with a request that they forward the link to their members and supporters as well. Please follow the link below to review the complete petition and to add your support. Please pass this email onward to anyone.

http://www.petitiononline.com/VCBS2010/petition.html

As you know all too well, the arts community across British Columbia has recently experienced devastating funding cuts, and all indications from the government's service plan are that there will be further cuts in the budget being prepared for presentation in early March of 2010.

The Alliance for Arts and Culture has created an advocacy campaign, Creativity Counts: Restore Arts Funding Now, which includes an Advocacy Toolkit, online at www.creativitycounts.ca

In the remaining weeks of this year it is important that our premier, his ministers, and all MLAs hear from our community, our audiences, our sponsors and the businesses we depend on for supplies and services, letting them know that these funds must be restored.

Twice Loved Art Silent Auction

netted $750 after expenses

We were really please with the quality of the donations received,

but the sales fell short of our goal for the event.

This was due to various factors including a shrinking economy.

While this was not as successful a fundraiser as we hoped,

a review has been done and changes recommended for

improving a future event.

Please feel free to contact the CDAC office at 250-426-4223
