FUNDING CUTS

Seeking support for a province-wide advocacy campaign

to restore arts funding in British Columbia to the 2008 / 2009 levels

You are probably aware of Creativity Counts: Restore Arts Funding Now through communications from Junko Sakamato, Trudy Van Dop and others. Full details, and our advocacy toolkit, can be found at www.creativitycounts.ca.
To date nearly 7,000 British Columbians have responded to this campaign by sending email messages through the website (where you will find an auto-letter program) to the premier and their own MLAs.
If you haven't already done so, please take a moment to send a letter, and encourage your friends, colleagues and members to do the same.
Creativity Counts
is emerging as our collective voice in an extended campaign to demand a comprehensive and sustainable provincial arts funding policy - one that will ensure that no future government can ever again treat the arts as an expendable "frill".
We need to keep up the pressure right through to the March 2 presentation of the next budget, and continue developing the network and strategies to keep Creativity Counts at the top of the agenda between now and the next provincial election.
There are three ways you can help support this campaign :
1. Propose A Municipal Resolution: The Union of BC Municipalities, several BC municipalities, and the Metro Vancouver Regional District board have all adopted resolutions calling on the provincial government to restore arts funding to previous levels. A copy of the template for this resolution is attached. Check with your municipal government and if they have not already done so encourage them to adopt a similar resolution and forward it to Premier Gordon Campbell. Susan Jersak of Powell River will be making calls to Assembly members across the province in the next several days to encourage and track action on this initiative.
2. Distribute Pins & Bookmarks (and Raise Money!): We have created a lapel pin and bookmark to raise public awareness of our campaign.  You can help distribute these pins and bookmarks in your own community, and raise a little extra cash for your organization as well.
3. Make A Personal Donation: We have developed a fundraising appeal that works a bit like a chain letter. Everyone who makes a personal donation to the Alliance 's advocacy fund receives a version of this letter with their own name at the bottom, to forward to their own circle of friends and colleagues. Please consider making a donation.

Twice Loved Art Silent Auction

netted $750 after expenses

We were really please with the quality of the donations received,

but the sales fell short of our goal for the event.

This was due to various factors including a shrinking economy.

While this was not as successful a fundraiser as we hoped,

a review has been done and changes recommended for

improving a future event.

Please feel free to contact the CDAC office at 250-426-4223

or email info@thearstcouncil.ca .
