Cindy Wietzel

Cindy Weitzel won her first award at a juried art show in Calgary, Alberta in 1972, at the age of eight. Since then, she has won numerous awards throughout Canada as a Wildlife artist whose passion for life and art are vividly seen in her paintings.

The Study (Cougar)

It doesn’t matter if she is working with acrylics, watercolors, charcoal or oils on Slate, Masonite, canvas, skulls, or plates, Cindy is able to capture the true spirit of the animal, bringing it to life. Continually perfecting her techniques, by attending art school, numerous workshops, and always trying new ideas has greatly enhanced her natural artistic talents. She also teaches others to paint and was former President at the Cranbrook District Arts Council.

Cindy lives close to the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, over looking the banks of the Kootenay River. She has spent many hours among the wolves at Kakin Hybrid Wolf Ranch in Wycliff BC and is one of the few people that have been accepted by the pack.

Badger

Being able to watch elk, deer, bear, wolves and other animals in their natural habitat all of her life has given Cindy a perspective on wildlife that few artists possess. Her artwork has been published in the “East Kootenay Weekly”, and “Rockies Magazine”, and The Guide Outfitters of B.C. as well as The Library Of International Photography as many other papers.

Reflections

Whether on location, from a photograph, or by memory, Cindy has to “feel” the painting before she starts.

This in turn heightens the emotional depth in her work.

Resting Place

She likes to feel the energy of the animal that she is painting. The eyes and the body have to say something to her, as if making contact with her or watching her as she passes by. Cindy feels, that through an animal’s eyes one can see its soul.
