
John James Dutton
is a freelance professional photographer specializing in media relations,
commercial photography and other special public relations assignments.
As
well as providing custom black and white photofinishing services
for area businesses and individual customers, his award winning
photojournalism has been featured on a regular basis in a number
of regional publications. In addition, he has been published
in a variety of national and international publications including
BC Report, The Globe and Mail, Calgary Sun, Calgary Herald, San
Francisco Bay Area Reporter, Ottawa Sun and Vancouver Province.

A graduate of the School
of Modern Photography, John has been involved in photography since
the early 1960's. He began his career with a retail photofinishing
business in Victoria and then became a commercial photographer specializing
in advertising, media relations, portraiture and weddings.
During this period, he also served as a columnist/photographer for
a number of automotive publications including Drag News and National
Dragster (both based in Los Angeles, CA), International Wheelspin
News (Toronto, ON), and Road and Motor Sports Magazine (Vancouver).
In
1974, John moved to the East Kootenays and served as a sports editor
and staff photographer for two years with a Cranbrook daily newspaper.
John joined a regional forest products company as a public relations/communications
officer in 1976. He accepted an early retirement offer in
1995 to return to professional photography on a full-time basis
and today continues to be actively involved in media relations,
commercial photography, black and white processing and special assignments.
John
was named a lifetime member of the Cranbrook and District Arts Council
in 1995, recognizing his personal contribution and corporate support
over two decades to the council. His signature photograph,
Monterey Cypress - a fog shrouded image of the famous lone cypress
tree on California's Monterey Peninsula - won the City of Cranbrook
Award at VisArts 1995.
