ARTiculate magazine, the first word in arts, culture and heritage in the Columbia Basin , is looking for story ideas for our spring/summer 2012 issue , which will be published in mid-April.   The deadline for sending in your story suggestions is Friday, February 3.
We are interested in hearing about the stories behind the people, events and organizations in your community that are making a contribution to the arts and heritage scene. What's new, what's hot, what's happening in the world of books, music, the visual and performing arts, local history or arts- and heritage-related projects where you live?
We are not accepting any completed stories at this time, please--just your ideas.
Tell us briefly:
The who, what , why, where & when of the story;
Why is story of interest?
Is it time sensitive?
Who is the contact person?
You can browse through your back issues of ARTiculate to see what we have published in the past, or check out ARTiculate online for more ideas:  www.wkartscouncil.com/articulate.html .

ARTiculate  magazine is now accepting listings for our events calendar in the spring/summer 2012 issue. The events calendar is a great way to help publicize your workshop, concert, film, performance, recital or art exhibition. The deadline for submitting listings for events taking place between May 1 and September 1, 2012, is Sunday, March 4. Arts, culture and heritage event listings are now subject to a nominal fee, due to government funding cutbacks that used to subsidize this service.
Event listings will only be accepted through the West Kootenay Regional Arts Council website, www.wkartscouncil.com/articulate.html . Sorry, we cannot accept events submitted any other way . Copies of  ARTiculate are distributed to cultural venues throughout the East and West Kootenays , including theatres, bookstores and galleries, as well as hotels, resorts, coffee shops and other high traffic areas. It is also distributed to tourist information centres throughout the region.
Help support our cultural community by publicizing your event!  Event Listing rates are $8.00 per listing. Payment is accepted either by cheque (payable to the West Kootenay Regional Arts Council, mailed to Box 103 , Nelson BC V1L 5P7) or by credit card using PayPal. You do not have to have a PayPal account to use this service. For information on rates for display ads and our "Artists, Writers, Musicians . . . at Work" ads, please contact natasha@carteworks.com

Culinary Art Show Proposal
Greetings fellow Chefs and Artists,
I am looking for Artists and chefs interested in participating in a Culinary Art Show to take place on Friday March 30th at Green Door Catering in Kimberley B.C.  The Purpose of the show is to demonstrate and explore the vast possibilities of food not just as a culinary medium but as a medium for many different disciplines of art.  This means any type of art that is created with food, uses food as subject matter, or in the case of written work that has a central theme of food. The sole objective of this show is to gather together artists of all different disciplines to work in this one medium.  The vagueness of the medium allows the artists to interpret and use the medium in any way they see fit.  This shows the incredible and vast possibilities that food offers us as both a piece of art and a tasty form of sustenance.  For more information click the following link https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=dba3f3e956bd0349&page=view&resid=DBA3F3E956BD0349!140&sc=Documents&authkey=!ACTW0pOOHcQCfGk&Bpub=SDX.SkyDrive&Bsrc=SkyMai

BC Touring Council loses major portion of funding   On Friday, January 6 th Executive Director, Joanna Maratta, received a telephone call from the regional manager of Canadian Heritage programs to inform BCTC that the BCTC funding application for $70,000 was not approved.  BCTC has received funding from Canadian Heritage since 1991 and there was nothing during the application process that indicated that this year would be any different.  The $70,000 represents approximately 25% of BCTC’s budget. K.A.M.P – Kootenay Association of Musical Performers
This is an informal organization of mostly acoustic musicians who desire to perform for “mature” audiences.  Although it is a relatively informal organization it does have the following Vision, Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives.  The organization has been in operation for around six months and has been conducting regular (K.A.M.P.ing) sessions at Ali Baba’s Lounge in Finnegan’s Pub in Cranbrook . The sessions are every Friday night (TGIF) from 6pm to 10 pm and, if the music and audience are in high gear, it goes to whenever. Although here have been some quiet evening the momentum is building and it is becoming the place for acoustic music in the area. So, fellow musicians, if you want an opportunity to perform get your name on the list by contacting the following email address parahaki@xplornet.com or by phoning Van Redecopp (250-421-0010), Dave Prinn (250-919-9136) or Rod Wilson (250-427-7151)
